What is the name of your demon?
All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives there lies a mystery. Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.

Note well: Thank you for the books, friend.
Yeah nice one.
I like not to indulge it as much as possible, which I would say is the opposite of what you’re supposed to do? So no, I haven’t named it.

My demons vary with the book I’m writing. For the first, it was called ‘Catharsis’. For the second, there were so many concepts in play that it was demon soup. For the third, (still being pitched by my agent) I fell in love with my own heroine. Does that make me sad?
